Brenda Niall grew up in Kew, graduated in Arts from the University of Melbourne and completed a distinguished academic career as Reader in English at Monash University. During and since that time she has written some acclaimed biographies, the most recent covering the lives of artist Judy Cassab and the Jesuit priest and former headmaster of Xavier College, Father Hackett. ‘Life Class’ is a reflection on her own life. She was an outstanding member of a panel on a century of biography at the 2010 Melbourne Writers Festival.
